Meanwhile, La Joya Palmview’s Briana Silerio fired a 4-over-par 78 to bunch her up in a tie for 22nd place, but just six strokes behind leaders Madison Phung of Frisco Lebanon Trail and Ann Takahashi of Grapevine high schools.
Silerio started on No. 10 and shot 5-over on the back nine. She recovered nicely on the front nine, carding a 1-over 37 and registering her lone birdie for the round on the 158-yard, par-3 No. 3. For the round, she carded 11 pars, five bogeys, one double bogey and the lone birdie.
Sharyland shot a 352 for the day, 45 strokes off the lead set by Frisco Lebanon Trail. The Rattlers are 11th out of 12 teams going into today’s final round.
“The girls had some good holes and some bad holes,” second-year coach Ashley Garza said. “We just need to minimize our mistakes, continue to believe in ourselves and play shot by shot.”
Senior Carolina Cantu led the Rattlers with 14-over 86. She was followed by Paulina Flores at 88, Gabriela Osuna and Samira Salinas at 89 and Maialen Erana at 107.
“Staying in the present will be key tomorrow, as it always is,” Garza said. “The girls have nothing to lose and everything to gain, and I’m sure tomorrow will be better for everyone.”
Cantu had a solid 40 on the back nine — she started back there on 10 — firing a 40 with five pars and four bogeys. However, it was the front nine that gave her fits, shooting a 46 with five bogeys, two doubles and two pars.
